چکیده
Figure 1. Lateral knee radiograph showing patella alta. A 68-year-old male presented to the emergency department with anterior right knee pain after falling at home and directly hitting his patella on the stepladder edge while he was going upstairs. Physical examination revealed infrapatellar region painful swelling and impaired knee extension. Knee radiographs showed no fracture; however, the lateral view revealed a high riding patella, concerning for a patellar tendon lesion (Figure 1). Ultrasounds confirmed radiographic suspect showing complete patellar tendon rupture (Figure 2) with proximal retraction of the patella. In a normal knee the ratio between the patellar tendon length and the diagonal length of the patella (Insall-Salvati ratio) should be approximatiely one, while this patient had a ratio of 2.2. 1 Differential diagnosis of patella alta includes patellar tendon rupture, subluxation of the patella, Sinding-Larsen-Johansson disease and joint effusion. 2 The patellar tendon composes the knee extensor mechanism together with the quadriceps tendon. Patellar tendon ruptures are less common than quadriceps tendon ruptures and are typically Figure 2. Ultrasound longitudinal scan over the infrapatellar region shows the complete patellar tendon rupture, which is swollen and hypoechoic (arrows). PT = patellar tendon. TT = tibial tuberosity.

Background: Bilateral rupture of the patellar tendon is a very rare injury, which takes place in relation to chronic systemic diseases. These injuries are known causes. Some of these causes are particular in patellar tendon rupture and another are in quadriceps tendon rupture. Case presentation: 70-year-old diabetic man with simultaneous bilateral patellar tendon disruption of proximal inser...

BACKGROUND quadriceps tendon subcutaneous rupture is an uncommon injury affecting predominantly middle-aged men as a result of direct or indirect trauma; aim of this work is to evaluate clinical outcome and tendon morphology in patients treated surgically with transpatellar drilling suture. METHODS 20 patients (20 male) with an average age of 54 (42-59) were evaluated with a mean follow-up of...
متن کاملNeglected Patellar Tendon Rupture Treated by Trans-Osseous Encirclage Wire and Turn-O-Flap: Case Report
INTRODUCTION Although patellar tendon injuries are common but chronic patellar tendon rupture are rare injuries but severely disabling. Problems associated with this injury are scar formation, atrophy and contracture of the quadriceps, poor quality of remaining reabsorbed tendon, inadequate soft tissue, proximal patellar migration and prolonged post operative immobilization. Hence these injurie...
متن کاملSurgical Technique to Bring Down the Patellar Height and to Reconstruct the Tendon for Chronic Patellar Tendon Rupture
Although surgical treatment is the gold standard for chronic patellar tendon rupture, the technique of patellar tendon reconstruction is still difficult. Basically, good clinical results of surgical repair for acute patellar tendon rupture have been reported. However, the results of reconstructive surgery for chronic patellar tendon rupture are still inconsistent. Some surgical options have bee...
